Duas for Tawaf and Sa'i
The most important authentic duas and adhkar for Tawaf and Sa'i, with guidance on the recommended times for supplication at each stage.
Read ArticleTawaf is a fundamental pillar of both Umrah and Hajj, yet many pilgrims fall into errors that affect the validity of their Tawaf. In this article we highlight the most common mistakes and how to avoid them.
Each circuit must begin from the point aligned with the Black Stone. Many pilgrims start from an imprecise position, making the circuit incomplete. The solution: look for the green line marked on the floor of the mosque that aligns with the Black Stone and start from there.
The Ka'bah must remain on your left at all times during Tawaf, meaning you walk counter-clockwise. Some pilgrims mistakenly keep the Ka'bah on their right, which invalidates the Tawaf. Always ensure the Ka'bah is on your left throughout every moment of your circuit.
The Hijr Ismail is part of the Ka'bah, so you must perform Tawaf around the outside of it, not through it. If you walk through the Hijr during your circuit, that circuit is invalid and must be repeated. Always ensure you pass on the outside of the Hijr.
Pilgrims often lose count due to crowds and noise. The solution: use your fingers to keep count or use an app to track your circuits. If you become unsure, build on certainty and take the lesser number.
Causing harm to others during Tawaf is forbidden. Many pilgrims rush to touch the Black Stone or the walls of the Ka'bah in ways that injure those around them. Remember that gesturing toward the Black Stone from a distance is valid and acceptable without causing harm to anyone.
It is not from the Sunnah to perform Tawaf with a collective du'a where a leader recites and the group repeats aloud. It is better for each pilgrim to make their own personal supplication and remembrance quietly, using Quranic verses and authentic duas.
Being aware of these mistakes and taking care to avoid them ensures your Tawaf is valid and complete. Sundus guides you step by step through each circuit so you can perform it in the best possible way.
