The most important authentic duas and adhkar for Tawaf and Sa'i, with guidance on the recommended times for supplication at each stage.
Read ArticleUmrah is a visit to the Sacred House of God in Mecca to perform specific rituals. It is a confirmed Sunnah according to the majority of scholars. Umrah consists of four main rituals: Ihram, Tawaf, Sa'i, and Taqsir (trimming) or Halq (shaving).
Ihram is the sincere intention to perform Umrah, and it begins at the designated Miqat for each direction. Before entering Ihram, it is recommended to bathe, trim the nails, and remove hair from the usual areas, then put on the Ihram garments (a white seamless lower and upper wrap for men, and modest clothing for women). The pilgrim then makes the intention in their heart, saying: 'Labbayk Allahumma Umrah' (Here I am, O Allah, for Umrah), and begins the Talbiyah: 'Labbayk Allahumma labbayk, labbayk la shareeka laka labbayk, innal hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la shareeka lak.'
Tawaf begins at the Black Stone with the Ka'bah on your left. The pilgrim performs seven complete circuits around the Ka'bah. For the first three circuits, men are recommended to perform Raml (walking briskly with short steps). It is recommended to touch or gesture toward the Black Stone at the beginning of each circuit. After completing Tawaf, pray two rak'ahs behind Maqam Ibrahim if possible.
After Tawaf, the pilgrim proceeds to perform Sa'i between Safa and Marwa — seven circuits starting at Safa and ending at Marwa. Supplication and remembrance of God are encouraged throughout. Upon ascending Safa and Marwa, it is Sunnah to face the Qiblah and make du'a. Men are recommended to jog between the two green markers.
Sa'i is followed by Taqsir (trimming the hair) or Halq (shaving the head), which concludes the Umrah. Shaving is preferable for men unless Hajj is imminent. Women should trim a small amount — approximately a fingertip's length — from their hair. After this, the pilgrim exits the state of Ihram and returns to their normal state.
